Hi everyone,

The features_sqlite branch finally got imported from SVN into BZR on
Launchpad, and RJ did a tremendous amount of work syncing the branch
back up with trunk. There was about 10 months of divergence RJ had to
deal with, as things like the AnalyserQueue weren't around when I
originally branched. Syncing back up with trunk was good idea though
because the SConscript has changed quite a bit over the last 10
months, and that's going to save people a lot of hassle getting the
branch to build.

The features_sqlite branch can be retrieved by running:

    bzr branch lp:~mixxxdevelopers/mixxx/features_sqlite

RJ's also scraped together a draft feature specification page for this
project here: http://mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/library_rewrite_using_sqlite

What we've basically got in the branch now is a barebones
database-powered library. The next step for us to try to envision the
most mind-blowingly awesome library we can think. Once we know what
we're aiming for, coming up with a functional layout for the code will
be much easier (this probably isn't news to anyone). :)

So my open question to everyone is: What do you want the new library
to be able to do?

My personal thoughts are that emphasizing organization and
easy-of-workflow are pretty important. When a DJ downloads tracks,
they need to triage their newly added songs. That includes performing
tasks like tagging the track, adding comments, adding cue points, etc,
and I think we should make it as easy and streamlined as possible to
do those types of things. Once you do that, navigating your library
via tags/crates/playlist becomes really easy, and I think we can make
"finding that next track" a lot easier. I think having lots of little
convenience features like play history will help polish the library
too.

Thanks,
Albert
