Hi guys, We've wrapped up development for Mixxx 1.8.0 Beta1 and I'll be pushing some final files to our internal packagers for this release shortly.
1.8 is going to be the most feature-packed release we've seen yet and that's pretty exciting.. We've got looping, support for multiple MIDI devices, a brand new SQLite-powered library, ramping pitchbend, and probably lots of other stuff that deserves to be mentioned as well. Due to legal reasons, our Beta1 binary packages will not include M4A support. The compilation option is still there if you're compiling by hand. A future beta release may include support for dynamically loadable SoundSource plugins, which can be produced and distributed by third parties. We're also going to run a bit of an experiment with 1.8.0 Beta1. We've lined up some pretty good artists off various netlabels and we're going to bundle a few of their tracks with Mixxx, which can be seen in our "Featured Artists" library view. Based on the feedback and statistics we gather over the next few months, we may be able to offer commercial labels the opportunity to have tracks from their artists bundled with Mixxx for a fee. Any potential revenue from such deals would be invested back into Mixxx development. Keep your eyes peeled on mixxx-devel and the blog for an official Mixxx 1.8.0 Beta1 announcement in the next few days (pending any packaging disasters), and be sure to download it and let us know what you think!
