Generally I guess the OEM mappings have some work and testing put into them so they're probably a good starting point. But if people think they can do better and it makes sense from a UI point of view/is well documented then I don't see any reason to always track the OEM mapping. Obvously what we want to avoid is people who just invent a mapping with no reference to what people expect and then it doesn't make any sense to anyone except them.
Here specifically, if the behaviour of the OEM mapping is more useful to users then that's how we should implement it. But I don't quite understand if that is the case here...
