Hi Mixxxers,
An important part of GSoC is to have suggested project proposals for
students to work off of. I've started a new wiki page to collect these.

Unfortunately we don't have a very good track record with GSoC. The number
of students who have stuck with Mixxx after GSoC is pretty low and the
number of projects that have merged into Mixxx is also quite low. For our
participation in GSoC to continue to be worth it for both us and Google, we
need to make some changes.
We have no guarantees about how many spots we will receive from Google (if
any). I'm going to be very critical of projects this year -- they are going
to need to be:
1) Very well scoped so they can be accomplished in a summer by a new
contributor. This means no major re-architecting or projects that require
deep knowledge of one or more subsystems of Mixxx.
2) In line with Mixxx's core focus -- live performance DJing. Something
addressing a use case on the fringes is going to be much harder to
integrate into the codebase. Often such projects require significant design
work to ensure that the fringe use case and core use cases co-exist while
the typical straightforward solution a student may arrive at will be a
hard-coded approach.
If your project doesn't meet these criteria then it won't be accepted. If
it turns out that we don't have any projects that meet these criteria then
I'll need to withdraw us from GSoC if we're accepted.
Sorry for the doom and gloom -- however, the way we've been doing things
isn't working well for students or the community (as GSoC is a great
opportunity to grow our team) so I think it's time to either stop
participating in GSoC or change the way we do things.
