That depends on what you mean. :) "The maximum useful" GOP size is somewhat
smaller than in my GOP size experiment, where I set a GOP size of 1500. It
works, the file was even smaller than it normally is, but my machine almost
swapped to death while processing the 1500 uncompressed YUV images in memory.

It probably depends on your intended playback target, too, and whether you
want to be able to jump in the resultant file or not; you can normally only
skip to an I-frame.
