OK, I rebuilt a stripped kernel with as few modues as possible. See .config
(attached) if you want to see what I did.
Notes:
1. You might find some crypto stuff in the .config. None of that was in the
kernel since I didn't put in the crypto patch. But without the patch, it
didn't show up in make menuconfig, so I couldn't take it out.

2. I'm running slackware-9 released, but lavrec was built during slackware-9
beta (on 2/23/03). I mentioned this before and you didn't say it was a
concern. I'm mentioning it again so you don't waste your time debugging
garbage. I am now rebuilding everything with the released distro. If you
want me to re-run this later, I will be happy to.

3. On the first crash, klogd blew up after lavrec and pushed the lavrec crash
info off of the consold. In order to simplify things, I hid some stuff in
rc:
# mv  /etc/rc.d/rc.cups  /etc/rc.d/rc.cups-hidden
# mv  /etc/rc.d/rc.serial  /etc/rc.d/rc.serial-hidden
# mv  /etc/rc.d/rc.syslog  /etc/rc.d/rc.syslog-hidden

4. Per your suggestion, the modules are all loaded in rc.modules:
/etc/rc.d/rc.modules
...
# Video for Linux drivers
modprobe zoran
...

To reproduce the error, I rebooted and immediately logged in as user, then ran
lavrec:
$ lavrec -fa -in -t5 /tmp/test10.avi
$ lavrec -fa -in -t5 /tmp/test11.avi
As before, the first attempt recordef 5s of AV and the second attempt recorded
for a while (looked like ~5s), then blew up.
Copy everything down, check over it

Reboot, and log in as user:
$ cd Desktop
$ vi crashlog
type it all in, check over it, :w :q

Reboot, log in as user
$ cd Desktop
$ ksymoops crashlog > ksymoops.out

Attached, find .config, crashlog, ksymoops.out, and lsmod.out, the names of
which should be self-explanatory.

Hope this helps!

Warning: You did not tell me where to find symbol information. I will
assume that the log matches the kernel and modules that are running
right now and I'll use the default options above for symbol resolution.
If the current kernel and/or modules do not match the log, you can get
more accurate output by telling me the kernel version and where to find
map, modules, ksyms etc. ksymoops -h explains the options.
