To set the device the program (lavrec, glav/lavplay) should use.
In xawtv you can change it with the -c /dev/device option. In LVS you can change it in the options (video and audio options). If you use v4l one device can only have one connection to a programm. Te zoran driver works around that problem. You have to start xawtv first and can than record. You can stop xawtv (or any other recording application) at any time. But you cannot start a tv application when the recording is running. That problem is solved in v4l2.
