Flattery will get you everywhere :-)

Yes, there's one very strong reason to get an AMD Athlon-MP
dual cpu system: it will cost almost 1/2 as much but in my
experience will run every bit as quickly as the more expensive
P4/Xeon.

For a dual Athlon system avoid the Chaintech. If you're
planning on using MP2600 or slower cpus then the Gigabyte
dual Athlon board is very good (but it does not support the
newer Barton core that the 2800+ uses). If you're going to
use the MP-2800+ (like I am) then the TYAN 2466-4M (note the -4M)
is _the_ board to use. Very stable and has 4 32bit PCI slots
instead of the usual 3 (there are 2 64 bit slots and onboard
10/100 ethernet).

But, I see no mention at all about analog -> DV *conversion*. It
will switch/route DV data but I can't see from the description
any mention of the conversion. The JX0S777 will accept a DV
input (just a 4 pin rather than 6 but that shouldn't be a problem
if a 6->4 cable is used from the camcorder or whatever).
It looks like the JXS577 will accept a DV connection from a
Canopus ADVC100 (if a 6->4 cable is used) but the impression I
get is that you'll need both the Canopus and the JVC unit.
I could be all wrong of course (looking at the wrong page of
the description or specsheet).
Happy System Procurement! ;)
