Most commercial DVDs use -D 10 but mpeg2enc defaults to 9 to save a few bits. The bug probably refers to the MPEG-2 multichannel extensions (I do not know of any free encoders that support that at the present time). AC3 does indeed work, and so does LPCM (but spending 1.5Mb/s on audio is wasteful - at least until the dual layer recorders come out later this year). The reference to AC3 should probably be removed from that sentence.
