        Ok, so it should be possible to build mjpegtools-1.6.0 with 
        libquicktime instead of quicktime4linux.   It was later (after 1.6.0)
        that libquicktime completely replaced both movtar and quicktime4linux.

        That's good to hear.   Now that you have 1.6.2 working there's no
        need to revert to 1.6.0 ;)

        Ah ha - that's what I thought.

        Yes, now I remember that my Digital8 has that (mis)feature also.  I
        made sure it was set to 16 bit.   DVDs require 48000 audio so leaving
        camcorder set to 48000 seemed to be the best thing to do.
