Depending on how the LML33 is configured, it may not terminate the incomming composite video signal with 75 ohms. There is a driver-zoran option for analog vs. digital loopback of the input signal to the output jacks that affects this. In some modes, (I don't recall the details), there must be a piece of equipment or a termination resistor connected to the output jack, otherwise the input will be unterminated and end up with approximately double the correct voltage. If you don't have anything connected to the output jack while recording, try cabling it to a monitor or another VCR's input, and see if that helps.
