I usually use jpeg2yuv -f 25 -n 1 -I p -j xxx | mpeg2enc ..... (1.6.2 on cygwin) in order to generate mpeg files without any problem starting from huge images taken by a digital camera and resized with ImageMagick: montage -geometry 720x576 -background black -quality 100.A guess is that the quality of 100 makes problems. Could you please try with lower quality like 90 ?
When I try to do this with small size images (resized in the same way to 720x576) jpeg2yuv give me this error: Unsupported sampling factor
I think that this is due to the quality factor in resizing process...
If that does not help, you can try to generate ppm images, and read them with ppmtoy4m.
