Other things to consider. The KTxxx chipset has a known issue (as me research recalls) where by heavy DMA transfers can lock the bus. If you are dumping to intergrated IDE disks this may be related. I suggest more research. Could be FUD, but I believe it. My system is a XP3000 but I have a SCSI Raid which circumvents the DMA issue. Also, I've found that shutting off APIC mode in the BIOS helps. I can't explain it, but my disk throughput is steady and doesn't seem to pause as much. Frame rate encoding is better too IMHO.
