I think it depends which kernel/distribution you're using - if it's /devfs or not. You might poke around the Kino forums: http://kino.schirmacher.de in particular the dcforum: http://kino.schirmacher.de/dcforum http://kino.schirmacher.de/dcforum/dcforum?az=show_topic&forum=101&topic_id=2714&mesg_id=2714&page= It appears that you need to use a device name of the form (and I have seen this in Kino's preferences/setup): mknod -m 666 /dev/ieee1394/dv/host0/PAL/out c 171 35 Don't worry about the PAL - the mode of the device is switched with an ioctl() call (I found a comment to that effect elsewhere in the forums). Looks like the key module to have loaded is "dv1394". For capturing I know 'raw1394' is used/required. > I've looked at mplayer -vo option for something but I don't see anything > relevant. I don't think mplayer knows how to export data over an IEEE1394 wire. > I tried setting kino -> preferences -> ieee1994 -> dv export -> dv1394 device -> > /dev/dv1394 > but I can't seem to play to that device. > Any suggestions? Hmmm, 'bout the only thing I can suggest is joining one of the Kino/dvgrab forums (or searching them ;)) to see how others are have done it. I'm certain it can be done - it's just not something I've had a need to do (yet).
