Unmute all channels using alsamixer, turn on recording for PCM, Master and Line-in and set volume to 80-90%. Then, run lavrec, don't use the --audio-volume or --audio-source commandline options, just let it autoselect. That's what I use and it works for me...

I did it this way:
* Switch off all channels
* Switch on: Master, PCM, Line and Capture and set all of them to about 70%. (This may be better with other values - did not try yet in detail)
* Toggled Line and Capture to Capture (using [Space], see help which you get by F1)
