That is because the Canopus never lost the sync burst.

IF those images are from 'still scenes' (no motion) then the problem
looks to me like the usual poor mechanical/video stability of VHS.

Could be anything from physical damage to the tape to mistracking (worn
heads in the VHS) of the tape. It's possible for the signal on
the videoutput to be "sync"able but the video data to be mangled - thus
the Canopus won't lose sync but the image will be unstable.

Nothing that money can't fix :)

But if the data is on the tape that way then there's nothing an
external box can do. If the Canopus isn't losing sync then there's
a good chance that's how the video is present on the tape. Maybe a
better VCR could track the tape better, but I'd guess not.

You might try, and I'm sure they're available in Europe (but if not
www.bhphoto.com can ship internationally), something like the Sima
        CT-2

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=313143&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

US$65 is a lot cheaper than a TBC.

        :)

You might try putting the data thru the new and improved deinterlacer
and creating a progressive stream. Maybe that will 'blend' the two
fields together into a more stable image.

        Cheers,
        Steven Schultz
