Sorry for my clumsyness that I don't know how to reply to a thread, but in
the archives it is marked "read only", so this is the only way I can reply

This is a reply to Ronald Bultje's reply to my original posting of April
24:

Ronald,

Thank you for your help. I tried your suggestion of -i n:0 but same
result, blank record without error. You asked what input on the bt8x8 card
I'm capturing from - the answer is composite. xawtv picks up image or
video played on the camera OK indicating use of composite1, overlay mode.

As I stated in the original posting on the top, if I start to record with
lavrec while xawtv is running xawtv turns blue as soon as lavrec capture
starts, and even after stopping lavrec xawtv screen remains blue. xawtv
runs in the background (xatwv &). I can restore the camera image in xawtv
if I switch its input away from composite1 to something else and back to
composite1. This suggests to me that lavrec somehow confuses or destroys
the composite1 input route (information pathway) from the back of the
bt8x8 card through its frame grabbing guts, the bttv driver, v4l etc.
leading to the input of xawtv and lavrec. Because this happened both xawtv
and lavrec displays or records blue screen. Toggling xawtv input selector
away from composite1 to something else and back restores the route
(pathway). I hope this helps to diagnose the problem.

By the way, in the mean time I figured out the +n in glav, so I was able
to play (and therefore frame-edit) the test video clip I recorded with
streamer. I was going to post this in order to demonstrate that eventually
I can find solutions.

As I stated in my original posting, I can record video movies played on my
analogue video camera through the bt8x8 card using streamer. So if I
cannot make lavrec work I'll just use streamer.

A new problem - maybe subject to a new posting? Problem with glav audio.
As I stated in my original posting, my first tests were with no audio. I
recorded a test video with streamer in mjpeg mono8 format. It plays well
with mplayer or on a windoz machine. However, glav complains about audio
buffer: Error initializing Audio: Audio task died. Reason: Error mapping
audio buffer - Input/output error.

I would like to be able to use lavrec and mainly glav so that I can edit
some of my videos. This is why I'm looking for help. Thank you.

Janos
