well i assume incorrectly thinking if we brought a trooper out that everyone
would expect the gun bit...my error. yes it was radared. i did also fail to
mention it is modded too . chips and 1.0 bar of boost with flowed intake
....thats it. about 400 bucks in mods wich i think are well worth it if i
had one. yeah bikes are funny btw. although the joy of straping myself to a
rocket is really limited.

Subject: Top speeds - reality check bounced

>Just a quick note on the ultrafast 944. Since no mention was made of radar
>guns or stopwatches, I'm going to assume that 180mph reading was from the
>speedometer. And, I hate to break this news to y'all, but speedos are
>notoriously inaccurate- especially over ~100mph. Both my GLI's read 5mph
>high @ only 75mph (says 75, actual 70) and that's with stock wheels & tire
>sizes. At 150 (if it would get there) the error would be at LEAST 10mph.

>My bike does the same thing. I got my bike flat out in 5th gear once, and
>the speedo showed 165mph. I know that's not accurate, since the bike's true
>top speed in 6th gear is ~167 (from bike mags with radar guns) and the top
>of 5th is mathematically ~150ish. Anyway, if the 944 speedo said 180 I'd
>suspect something more like 160 in reality, perhaps lower; unless this was
>a really, REALLY pumped up 944. I always take these numbers with a big ol'
>grain of salt unless the claim is backed up with some serious evidence
>(radar guns, timing lights, etc).
>
>BTW, to the lister who was skeptical: Car & Driver tested a 99 Camaro SS
>convertible and it went 160mph, the C-5 Vette hit 171. The GTI & GLX VR6
>both did ~134. Electronically limited, I hope. One last bike tidbit (sorry
>can't resist!) is about the Suzuki Hayabusa GSX-1300R. It has been radar
>gunned, bone stock, at 194-196mph by several different mags. However, they
>all show 210-220mph on the speedo when flat out. This thing has 165hp at
>the wheel, and runs high 9's at mid-140's in the quarter. Corners pretty
>good too for a big bike. :-)
>
>A2 content, to avoid getting banned for off-topic banter: Is there any way
>to correct the A2's speedo error? It's really annoying! Will a correction
>doohickey thing go between the transaxle and the speedo cable?
