Putting on a 1000kg steering knuckle will hurt your acceleration due to the total added weight of the car. Thats obvious. In the sentence below, I was comparing unsprung weight and unsprung rolling weight. Of course by shaving pounds of your car in any way you'll gain acceleration, however by getting lighter steer knuckles (for example) won't give you any gains in the unsprung rolling weight area.
