FYI - If these clips are the type I am thinking about...

There are clips that have the "holes" drilled in them.
There are also some where the ends are cut at an angle
so that if you try to spread them with yer fingers you'll
get holes poked in them.

If ya pull these out with a screw driver - they go flying..

At Sears I have picked upt TWO types of pliers that
work on these.

One looks like a regular set of "duckbill" pliers.
On the "outside" edge - there are some cross hatch
serrations. These "grab" the pointed ends.
If you squeeze the pliers, the ends "open" - thus
spreading the clip.

The *nicer* ones have all sorts of fancy linkages
and a "spoon" type end.
The linkages cause the spoon parts to spread
in parallel rather than at an angle.
These are MUCH less likey to spit the clips across
the room...

----------

For me there was no bigger frustration then replacing/rebuilding my front
wheel bearings, CVs, and axle flange seals. As you know, the circlips are
all of the "snap" type. With the exception of those monsters on either side
of the front bearings, none have the holes for circlip pliers. Here I am
laying under the car on a cold concrete floor, trying to balance these
knife-edged snap circlip ends on the pointy ends of circlip pliers. I must
have tried 15-20 times before I finally got the circlip to seat on the end
of the axle stub. I only had a few, and they shot all over my garage. I
got shot in the eye with one. Still, I go back...
