Diesel engines days are numbered. They are way too dirty. Ever see a diesel
make power? They spew carbon particulates because they run rich when lugging
the motor down low. They run so rich when they make power because diesel
engine fuel management is the opposite of spark ignition. Diesels pull in
all the air they want and regulate the fuel hence when they are down low the
timing pump is dumping in huge amounts of fuel a the motor is pulling very
little air. Mercedes went so far as to put a particulate filter in the
exhaust system of their 300d cars to conform to California emission
standards. this lasted only a year because the particulate filter clogged up
easily and was a PITA to service.
electricity is the way to the future once engineers find an electrical
source that can develop 6000 joules per pound just like gasoline, then and
only then is when electric cars will take off like a rocket. Heck electric
cars will be faster than gasoline cars will ever be. I have a 15 year old
Team Associated Rc10 that has a 13 turn electric motor that pushes the car to
an honest 45 mph that's 450 mph in 1/10 scale and I did this on crap sport
1200mAH SC cells I would love to see what the car would do on the new 3000
mAH Ni Mh cells
