I can attest to this as well. My friend has a 92 Talon TSI and one night at
import drag night, after a particularly hard shift, the timing belt jumped a
few teeth, there was a bad sound from the exhaust at about 6K rpm, and it
ran no more. We had to tow it home. When we took the head off, two of the
valves were almost snapped off, and the rest were bent -very- badly.
Fortunately (if there is a fortunately in this situation...) the combustion
chamber walls were not scratched, so he ended up buying only new pistons and
a new head.
