On the way to work this morning in the snow, the rear end of my GTI felt
awfully loose around corners, so I figured something must be wrong back
there. I stopped to see what was going on, and the left rear wheel was hot
from the brake dragging. The actuator lever on the caliper was not fully
released, so I manually released it, thinking that this temporary fix would
at least release the brake and stop dragging. By the time I got it home, the
wheel was hot again.

I pulled the wheel off, and tried to manually release the brake again, but
there was still alot of drag. I pulled the ebrake cable off the lever, and
the brake is still dragging, so it isn't caused by a binding ebrake cable.

Does anyone know what the internal mechanism in these calipers looks like?
If I pull the caliper off and push/turn the piston back in, would the
self-adjusting mechanism fix things up? Or is the caliper junk and in need
of a rebuild or replacement?

Thanks
-Ken
