Master cylinder is toast, or possibly a leaky caliper.
I second that opinion. I had the exact same symptoms
recently, and it turned out to be the master cylinder. Don't put it
off; it may not seem bad now, but it will only get worse. Pretty soon
the pedal will be going to the floor; I know!
