Paul, You know, making carbon fiber body panels actually isn't that difficult. It's actually pretty straightforward, except that it takes time and some amount of money; around ~$1000 or more. I actually made some (just a little piece) composite body panels for a small formula racecar (Formula SAE) from glassfiber, kevlar, and carbonfiber. (It was my first time, so I just decided to throw everything in! :) The most difficult part of making the panel would be to make a mold for it, but since you already have a "plug" (the original panels), it shouldn't be that bad. Especially if you could get couple guys here together to make it - Once you get a mold made, you can easily produce 10 or more of the panels pretty easily.
If you wanna read more about it, visit: http://www.mahaneyphoto.com/personal/bodyglas/ This tutorial is very involved. Just a hood or a fender would be much simpler.
