when i did the 2.0 conversion to my 87 16v, i just trimmed the head
gasket to allow that pin to pass through it. i suppose i should have
drilled the gasket out, but it gave no problems anyway. the 1.8 head
has a hole for that pin.

thats a good idea. ill have to remember that.

i know i bitch about this every time it comes up, but this 1.8 vs. 2.0
head thing really irks me. regardless of what head "should" perform
better at various RPM's, nobody has ever done any back to back dyno
comparison of the two heads. people have done the swap, and many havent
even felt anything on the "butt dyno". those who have done the swap are
probably just noticing gains from having a head with less buildup, or
one that has better compression, ect. unless you swap heads to one
which is ported, and for that matter properly serviced as well, dont
waste your time or money.

bitch off, until the next time this comes up.
