Sorry to hear about that Erich, but there is some good news. You said they broke your side window? Well, as long as it wasn't the small vent window found on 85-87 VW's (I dont know which year you have), then the replacement is pretty cheap.
> > 1. Is it easier and quicker for me to pay someone to replace the glass or > can I do it myself and save some cash? Places like Safe-t-glass cover the damages and do it fast. There is one on Rt 17 near the big barnes and noble, great guys. I would suggest going that route, unless you are paranoid about having all original OEM glass on your car. :) Some people I've met are, and willing to spend 4 times the amount from the dealer. > > 2. Will insurance cover the damage or am I going to have to foot the entire > bill? > As long as you have theft, you'll be covered. They will ask you for reciepts of the radio, anything stolen. Also, take pictures NOW. They never hurt. Remember, anything attached to the car that was stolen is covered by Auto insurance. Anything not attached (jewelery, that nice expensive leather jacket that you had in the back seat =) is covered by homeowners insurance. You have a reciept, they pay. Trust me on that one. BTDT. I tried to get a blank reciept from a friend to cover my radio, amp, and bazooka that was stolen. All of it came with the car. So I had two blank reciepts, and I put the radio on one (actual values) and the amp and tube on the other. I put the date about 3 months apart, however the little invoice numbers on the receipt were consecutive. So the NJ state insurance fraud division sent me a letter telling me i was going to be investigated, never happened. But be careful, I tried to get back exactly what was taken, and never saw the money. > 3. How much will the glass cost? How much will it cost to have the glass > replaced? I am in the Northern NJ area If its the little trianle vent window, I think it was $150 for a generic VW glass. The normal side window, about $50. Actually they are VW, but not an exact replacement, tinting might be slightly off. > > 4. Is it possible to get a radio in the same place? I really need another > radio because driving 3 hours to car shows having to listen to just my TT > exhaust sucks. Same place? meaning in the same spot on the dash? yeah of course. Just replace the plastic trim piece, and youre fine. You'd be suprised, the heater controls (front piece, not back piece with vacuum connections) and other small trim pieces aren't too expensive.
