Spray the filter with K&N's "cleaner".  

Let it sit for a few minutes then rinse the filter using tap water -
reverse flow.  (Make sure to do this in a shop sink or at least be
sure that the SO isn't home when you use the kitchen sink)  

Let the filter air dry - set it in the sun, wave it at your
neighbors, whatever but DON'T use compressed air which could blow
holes into the media.  

When dry, oil the filter with K&N's oil until the filter is nice and
red
