Very close: it's actually on the last page of chapter 33 of "Restaurant at
the End of the Universe", which is part of the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy
(which includes at least five books and a short story...). There are other
references elsewhere in the series to the number 42 (which is what you get
when you multiply six by nine [sic]: check the source).
