The fenders are the same except there is a retangular cut out in the top center of the arch. The fenders themselves do not flare out anymore than any other a2 fenders. The plastic arches them selfves however flare out 15mm more than the regular arches. That is where the clearance is gained. Instead of flaring down towards the tires they flare straight out more. Since the fenders are cut out the inner fender liners are different to seal close to them.
The G60 arches are the same as the USA Spec 91-92 GTI 16v arches. In Europe the 91-92 16v GTI's did not have the wider arches we were lucky to get at standard equipment. Same goes for the 2.0 16v motor, which in europe was only found in the Corrado 16v. FYI the G60 or 16v arches can be bought at the vw dealer for $56 each for the fronts. The rears are also 8mm wider but I do not find them necessary. Curious thing, the rears cost more at about $65 each. For some reason the left and right rear arches cost different amounts.......
