I'm a little confused on your situation. I think that in order to use the H4 headlight *and* H4 bulb, you will have to buy an adapter (9003 or 9004 i think) from the local autoparts store and replace your standard bulb adapter. I don't think you can use a USDOT bulb in your H4 headlight... it just doesn't fit. The H4 bulb will plug right into the new adapter you bought from the autoparts store. They don't usually sell *H4* adapters, since they don't really sell them around here, as far as I know. I could be wrong on that assumption.
If you want to dramatically improve your lighting, then listen to what John Cadwell had to say about relays. I couldn't agree more with him! I bought two new H4 headlights, 80w/100w H4 bulbs, 55w/60w bulbs, two bosch relays, and a spool of 10awg wire. Wired everything up, and I was in complete awe when I saw how much better my headlights were! When one of my 80/100 bulbs blew, I replaced it with a 55/60w bulb. To tell you the truth, with those two bulbs side by side, I could *barely* tell a difference between the light output. Since then, my other 80/100w bulb blew, and I'm running two 55/60w's... and the road in front of me is almost like complete daylight. :) I wouldn't bother buying a brighter bulb, just because of the fact that the difference is almost negligible. Besides, the 80/100 bulbs didn't last but maybe a month. I was sort of pissed about that. Anyways... check out: http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/how_to/relays/ There is a good write up on why you should use relays, and a nice diagram on how to wire everything up. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to improve my foglights. -Chuck Simpson '92 GTI 16V (http://www.a2ipb.com/~csimpson/GTI) -----Original Message----- From: John Caldwell [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2001 12:52 AM To: Larry Velez Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: H4 lights On Thu, 10 May 2001, Larry Velez wrote: > > Hi all, > > I cracked one of my headlights and so had to put in an H4 that I bought > from a fellow lister. With 55W/60W bulbs, i would say there was a 100% improvement when I went to relays- maybe even more. > Also, which bright bulbs would you guys recommend for the H4s.
