<< What is the actual benefit from removing the a/c besides less weight? >> This weekend, I finally removed the A/C from my car. The whole A/C assembly had been giving me nothing but trouble, and was out of freon anyways, so I decided to pull it. It's one of the BEST performance mods you can do for your A2 VW. -It takes 35-40lbs off the front end of the car. -gives better weight distribution -the car has slightly better turn in response -the engine is quieter, and more eager to rev -throttle response is much improved -car is overall a little bit quicker -almost everything in the engine bay is easier to get to -motor mounts will last longer -engine temps will be cooler The only downside to removing the A/C is that, well, the A/C won't ever work! Oh, and it did raise the front of my car by almost a 1/4 inch.
