Underneath for the most part.  If you do the complete rebuild, you'll be 
pulling the shifter rod out through the car.  Most of
the bushings are centered right around the trans itself.  It's really not that 
difficult, just a little time consuming and really
messy.  Personally, I would say if you have a jack, two 13mm wrenches,  13mm 
and 15mm sockets and an extension, go for it.  Just
note where each bushing (or its remains) is placed as you disassemble the 
linkage and you'll be fine.
