I'm trying to decide between two cars:
'91 Golf GL, K&N filter, TT exhaust, header, euro round lights, HOR springs
with Boges, fairly new clutch, transmission from '87 GTI, etc. Body has
some small surface rust spots and the A2 windshield rot, but no nasty
cancer. 120K miles. Looks like it needs a new front motor mount and MAYBE
some brake work (pedal is squishy, but car has been sitting for a couple of
months, so it could just need a bleed). $1500. Would need to go through
MA inspection, so that'd tack some more money on there. Owned by a
vw-vortexer that seemed to know his stuff and take decent care of the car.

The other car is an '86 8v 'rocco with 114K on it. Bone-stock. New
clutch, Decent body, one dent in the LF fender (in the crease between the
wheel arch and fender) and some surface rust here and there. Nothing nasty
as far as I can tell. Paint is pretty swirly and faded. Seems to be in
decent mechanicial condition. It's got good tires (all-season yokos) on it
$1100. Don't know much about the car. It's only a one-owner car. The guy
that owns it now hasn't even driven it. He bought it from someone because
the fuel pump was leaking like hell, fixed the pump, and is selling it.

Basically, I'm looking for something to be reliable around-town
transportation for a few months, and then a project car (2.0l 8v
torque-monster perhaps) once I have a garage and the space to work on it.
I guess my main concern with the golf is that I've never dealt with
digifant before. Any thoughts?
