I'm sorry but I just don't see the point of swapping a similar displacement engine simply because it's turbocharged. Since you'll be using Haltech engine management, I'm willing to bet a properly built 16V will give the same power & reliablity as a 1.8T. Here is a link to a german firm turbocharging the newer ABF 16V engine without aftermarket engine management (using the OEM TPS system) resulting in 290bhp.http://www.hgp-turbo.de/16v.htm. Granted it's nothing impressive compared to what some of the US firms are gettting out of the 16V, but it's probably quite reliable using moderate boost levels.
If I ever decide to go forced induction, I'd start with a VR6 and work my way up. The only reason to swap a 1.8T is if will cost less than building a reliable turbocharged 16V. Best of luck to you with your project. _____________ List Sponsor: http://www.netsville.com To remove yourself from this list, send mail to [email protected] with 'unsubscribe a2_16v' in the body of your message See us on the web at http://www.a2-16v.com Visit the 16V Homepage at http://www.gti16v.org
