hey all,
just bought my GLI a week ago ('90, teal green (don't know the technical name),
160000 miles), and I have a few questions. First on my list is that it needs
tires, and I was wondering what to get. It has the stock BBS rims which I plan
on keeping. The tires that I was thinking of getting are BFGoodrich Comp TA
ZR's. Had a probe with them, seemed to be good tires. According to discount
and belle tire, 105R45 will fit. Is this so? Will there be any rubbing
problems? My next question is that I need an exhaust and a cat (sounds like a
loud coffee can with pennies in it, so it's the cat and exhaust, I assume). I
don't here any leaks, so i assume that the whole system is just trashed
(factory original). I was thinking of getting a techtonics setup. Good? Bad?
I figure that I'm not going to do much better than $195 for exhaust and $175
for cat. If anyone knows of anything more economical (while still retaining
power), let me know. My last question is reguarding the stereo. I currently
have the "aktiv" system, which seems to work pretty well, and I have my
minidisc player hooked up to a cassette adapter. I am getting some nasties
from the speakers at anything higher than "soft" (radio, tape, minidisc,
doesn't matter), so I ordered some blaupunkt's to put in. 2 pair of 5.25"
graphite drivers, and 1 pair 3.5" overdrive. These will work with the head
unit, right? I would like to avoid replacing the head unit (for the time
being) if at all possible.
thanks for all the help,
-John
