Well, the belt didn't break. But all the belt teeth down on the crank gear are gone. This I didn't expect.
I honestly do not know how old the belt was. I know, I should have changed it as a preventive measure when I bought it last year. Anyways, slide a new belt on. Pulled plugs to check for compression. Hole 1, good 200, hole 2, dead, hole 3, dead, hole 4 another 200. Any recommendations besides getting a good 3 angle valve job and maybe some light porting? I'm taking this car out of DSP, and probably just run it in SM or our regions local Street Open, so I'm not really worried about having a legal head. Oh yeah, I do have a euro intake cam to install, along with a Techtonics 'race' downpipe. Thanks guys, Robert Foster '88 VW 16v GTI - DSP - forced to drive a 'honda' at next event.... I'm going to try installing a belt Saturday and checking compression. Hopefully I didn't bend any. If not, I'll get it pulled and reworked. The belt went after I had slowed almost to a crawl (in 2nd) for a red light and then was starting to accelerate through after it had changed green. Low speed, low rpms.
