Maybe this is urban legend - but the story is good. Involves bicycles, not VWs...
Cyclist visits a friend in NYC. Parks and locks bike to a parking meter. As the apartment dweller drops the keys out the window to the friend on the street - they spot the thief stealing parts off the bicycle. Upstairs guy runs down. Guy on the street runs after the thief. The nab him. Then they notice that the thief has a "nicer" bike than he has. So what to do with the guy? They drag him around the corner an use their u-bolt bicycle lock around the guys neck and the ever present parking meter. -- The biggest problem with putting the thief in a world of hurt - they know where ya live. It aint fair - but they can hurt you more than you can hurt them - and they know this. Even if they are put away they can get at you. The only answers involveing moving to an area with a lower crime rate (and usually less jobs). I live out in the "country". The only people I see are hikers and "hunters" during season. The hunters are usually very nice. I suppose they would have to be being that they are crossing private property while armed... Anyway - to combat crime - I drive a BEATER VW. No fancy seat (tho they would be nice), dents everywhere, steel wheels... sigh. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
