Going from PS to manual rack on the A2 is a big mistake, you will regret.
Modify your AC bracket to hold the alternator in the compressor position for
$0.

Subject: Manual VS Power steering.......
Date: Mon, 06 Aug 2001 22:44:09 EDT
I am considering leaving the manual steering in my 85 Golf when I do the 16v
swap and getting the autotech close ratio gearset for the rack. It has a
few advantages in my mind,....less weight, less parasitic drag, solid feel,
and also, a non PS - non AC bracket from Potter is only $65, where as a PS-
non AC bracket is like $200.... SO.....What are the ratios of the PS vs
the MS,....or at least, how many turns lock to lock on each? If the close
ratio kit for the MS makes it the same ratio as a PS, I might as well put
the PS in, no? I am hoping the kit makes it quite quick turn to turn.... -
