RE: alarm/RKE actuator

Mark Rada:

I've used a VDO electric/pneumatic OEM VW actuator from a Quantum on both an
A1 and an A2. It replaces the drivers door unit; it uses same bolt holes.
Have to splice into the pneumatic line under the dash using a "T" fitting and
some PVC hose. I used small sections of PVC tubing and some rigid nylon-type
tubing to make it easier to run the lines.

RE; Wheel refinishing.

Its best to keep the wheel sealed to prevent "vermiform" corrosion under the
clear coat. You can probably try touch up first if you are not fussy about
appearance to halt the process. Trying to strip the OEM finish from just
some 16V teardrop center caps leads me to believe blasting is only feasible
way of removing finish. I've consulted a NASA info site on corrosion for
lotsa good info, but they advocate Zinc chromate primer, which is toxic and
hard to come by. I had to go to aircraft repair hanger at airport to find.
I also have old TSB on VW pat no's if you want VW equivalents, but dunno if
still available.

Brian D.
