Have you tried just adjusting the cable?  The clutch cable should have
about 3mm(?) of travel in it.  To check, pop the hood and yank on the big
cable going into the transmission.  If it has some freeplay (but not much
more than 3mm), you're SOL.  If there's no freeplay, try unscrewing the
thing a bit until there is some.  If there's too much, tighten it up.  Then
take it for a drive and see if it's OK.
