i suggest checking the throttle cable it might be stuck

1985 Scirocco 8v. My idle adjustment screw fell out. I replaced it and
set the idle to where it was perfect. I drove the car about 300 miles and
now it wants to idle at around 1800 rps regardless of what I do to the idle
screw. Suggestions please...
