I swapped my spare 1.8 for my ran-it-w/o-oil 2.0 today. while I was there I
changed the bushings on the shift rod (more on that later), I started to
re-adjust the shift lever and went to see if I had actually selected a gear,
I could turn the rotor (the other wheel is on the ground) so, not in gear. I
did this until I got tired and then played around with the spare tranny
until I sort of figured out when it should be in gear. It IS in gear, so now
looking through the timing hole I can see the 1/2" of exposed main shaft
turning. WTF? The clutch pedal doesn't seem right. I don't know how that
self adjusting mechanism works but it definitely doesn't feel right. When a
stock clutch goes, does it go to the point where turning the engine over,
while in gear doesn't even spin a rotor? Could the engine (actually the
clutch disk) and trans be mismated?
Thanks,
Steve
PS I know I should have changed the clutch.
