Over last couple of days replaced waterpump and timing belt on my 89jetta
8v.
I've done exactly as the bentley described when installing the timing
belt, matched up the marks on the intermediate sprocket and crankshaft pulley.
The top is lined up with the bracked at the top of the head as
described....thing is when all is aligned the rotor Is not in the number one
position. I checked this after it started and was running badly. Not knocking
or anything just missing and idling up and down. Why is this rotor not in #1
position when all marks are aligned?
   All help is appreciated.
                  Thanks
                      Mike
