Something is WRONG with Dave's setup because I too have had this in my car. Here was the setup: 1.8l 16v engine with ported and polished head BMS headers, oversize race cat TT stainless Borla exhaust system "special cams" fuel enrichment
The car idled perfectly smooth and pulled hard from 2700 to redline. And I mean hard... In fact I still miss this setup over the current 2.0l with Schrick 268's. It has to be done right or the cams don't work very well. There is someone on the list with a set like that who may want to sell them to you. From reading the tech articles on scirocco.org website, it seems like it makes a good difference. But would like some more inputs. Thanks. Notes: Lumpy idle, rough running unless run hard. Makes power all the way until redline, though. If you are running Motronic, stay away. This works well with Jetronic set on the rich side. I still have mine, already cut, sitting in the garage. I used it, it worked, but I daily drive my car and it wasn't practical.
