Ive got a '91 GLi 2.0L and in the past week or so, my car has suddenly become increasingly sluggish, has no torque or accelleration, and is running much hotter than it used to. I checked the oil: good. I checked the water: good. I checked the timing belt: good (no stretching, cracking or fraying).
Nothing seems to be physically different from the week before. I just cant figure out why i get no power. even when im doing 55 and drop it into 3rd and lay on it, I hardly get a pinch of xtra power. Sure it does accellerate, but very slowly. When driving anywhere, every time i turn the car off the engine is so hot that the fan has to stay on for a bit. The last time I ran into this was on my old '89 GLi and it had the same symptoms and it was because I had just replaced the distributor and the timing was a little off. This time, I havent touched anything and it just started doing this. Any ideas? I dont want to break anything by driving it to work in the morning if its really serious.
