Now for the real message. Wasn't sure if this thing was working or not. I just recently determined, when trying to replace a backup light switch, that a have a 9A transmission not a 2Y. I looked at a tranny gear ratio chart and saw that they have the same gearing except for 5th which is a 0.89 instead of the 16v 2Y 0.91. Is this correct. What are any other differences between the two boxes? Am I correct in believing the 9A was an 8v gti/gli transmission from 85-87? The 9A is in ok shape, second gear synchro is worn, and I want to get a limited slip, bolt kit and possibly a 3.96 R&P at some point along with a rebuild. Should I buy the correct 2Y and go from there or have the 9A rebuilt?
