Hey Alex, long time.....
Although I look to you for many things, electricity I know about.
I don't think your car has a hot start relay in stock configuration.
To check just follow the small wire to the starter (terminal 50?).
If the comes from the ignition switch, there is no relay.
Usually the hot start problem is more common on the automatic cars where the
starter is under the exhaust manifold. What you have is not enough voltage
differential between terminal 50 AT THE STARTER, and ground AT THE STARTER.
Check to see the voltage between battery ground and starter ground is very
small
when the starter is cranking (current is flowing). You can even compare
this when hot and
cold. Also check the difference between battery + and terminal 50. You may
have a
compromised ignition wire or bad grounding in the
starter-transmission-body-battery path.
Another experiment is to put the key in the ON position and touch a heavy
cable between
battery + and terminal 50 on the starter. If that works hot, likely there
is a problem in the
path to terminal 50 on the starter. You could try the same big jumper from
battery -
to the case of the starter to improve ground at the starter.
My long winded point is that a relay may make it work, but if it does it is
likely masking
another problem (cabling, battery voltage, or the starter itself).
I still am planning on finishing my 2L swap, once I have more dinero and
time and surgeon
who can put 2 new discs in my back!
Hope I helped,

My car's been giving hot start problems for months. I finally tracked it
down to needing a hot start relay, or replacing one if my car's already got
one.
Alex.
