- I'm not a fan of K&N either.  First of all, on an A2 16V, it won't make any 
noticeable power.  Like JV, I also remember reading something that proved 
that they don't flow any better than a paper filter.  Also, if you actually 
use the K&N cleaner, the cost of it offsets any savings from having to 
replace a paper filter.

When I ran a K&N in my old Rabbit GTI, I noticed two things:
1.  The filter gets dirty pretty quickly.
2.  When the filter gets dirty, I actually feel a difference in throttle 
response.
At the drag strip I instantly shaved 1/10th of a second and gained 1mph after 
putting my paper filter back in.  This happened this happened not once but 
TWICE.
