I have Blaupunkt speakers in my Vanagon and they work fine, especially when
they have the sound deadening cones behind them. These speakers are cheap
and bombproof.

My GTi has no back seat or deck or anything back there. I rewired my
original Aktiv system so that the "rear" speakers are in the doors and the
"front" speakers are in the dash. I needed something to listen to while
driving to the next auto cross so this setup fits the bill nicely. I don't
even know what kind of speakers they are (cheapest I could find) but they
are tons better than the stock ones. A Bazooka would be a great
(removeable) cherry on top if I had one.

Speakers on the stock rear decks do nothing, especially the puny ones that
actually fit back there. Chopping the rear hatch deck to accomodate
speakers is something you can't undo. Be absolutely sure that is what you
want to do before you break out the saws-all.
